Substantial Modification: Psychology  Program Description

Since 2003, the 48-credit hour Masters in Clinical Psychology and Masters in Counseling Psychology have not been substantially revised. Loyola University Maryland is proposing to make the current delivery model more efficient and attractive. Students to be able to better distinguish between the Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology curriculums. All students take initial courses in psychological assessment, counseling theory, psychotherapy and research methods. Thereafter, they declare Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology as their program of study. Clinical Psychology prepares students for mental health provider positions, certification or licensure as a mental health counselor or entrance into a Psy.D. program. The Counseling Psychology degree prepares students for mental health provider positions, certification or licensure as mental health counselors and includes courses required for Maryland State licensure and licensure in other states. Students planning on becoming Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC), may choose to enroll in the 60-credit hour option. Graduates who complete the extra credits may take the examination through the Maryland Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors and Therapists (MBEPCT) and boards in other states.
